Often
our time in the woodshop is guided by an excitement
for our craft. Maybe yours is one of discovery, finding
new ways to solve old problems through specialty jigs
or looking for interesting ways to put together a collection
of nice woods. You may be inspired by a yearning for
nostalgia, using your hands and tools to produce your
woodshop projects in ways similar to the craftsmen of
old. Perhaps your enthusiasm is for furniture built
in the style of Greene & Greene or Shaker designs.
And for sure there are many out there that are passionate
about box making.
Box
makers and their individual contributions are
as varied as the weather in Texas. From the soaring
architectural constructions of
Po Shun Leong, to the elegant, clean lines of
designs by Doug Stowe, there are boxes for every
taste and style of construction. The one constant
that appears again and again in our encounters
with this particular passion is that many of the
best box makers have discovered the value of owning
an INCRA
Router Fence System or Precision
Table Saw Fence System for the special challenges
that come with making finely crafted and exquisitely
detailed pieces.
One
such box maker has come to our attention through
an article recently printed in Good Woodworking
Magazine in the United Kingdom. Kieran O'Cuneen
served for many years as an Ambassador for the
European Union and developed an affinity for beautifully
crafted boxes. His hobby has become his passion
and now he creates beautiful pieces for many of
his friends and acquaintances from his former
career, including many Heads of State. You'll
surely enjoy his story(PDF
format, file size: 2.4MB.)
